  1. I really love this website because it has a lot of the good information on how to take care of cats. Do you have advice for cats who are more energetic and run around a lot? My cat recently broke some plates and jumped on the kitchen sink. I don’t know what to do when I go to shop for groceries or to get something to eat. Any advice?

    1. Hi Lorenzo, I much appreciate those kind comments. When you talk about energetic cats are you referring to adult cats or kittens? Kittens are often very energetic but this is generally a normal passing phase and they slow down on reaching adulthood. My son’s kitten Lily was as you described when she was living with us and was a real rascal by haring around the house and climbing up curtains etc!. Some of this mischievous behavior may be because your cat is bored, particularly if it is an indoor one and it is important that you have plenty of cat toys around for him as well as scratching posts and indoor climbing tree furniture to enable him to expend his excess energy on these rather than your prized possessions!

  2. This post could not have come at a better time. I am taking care of my friend’s cat for a month and having never owned a cat before, a lot of these recommendations are super helpful for me! Thank you for the great post!

  3. Hello James, this post has all it takes to take care of a cat. You provided the details from how to give a proper care to it at home and when there is the need to visit the Vet doctor. Your article is very engaging and useful that could keep anyone coming back. Just keep on doing what you are doing because your effort is helping tons of cat owners out there.

    Thanks for this.

  4. James, I thoroughly enjoyed this article. I can feel your love for cats in the way you write about them and I salute you for that sir. I sum up this article in the following way – “Love thy cat like thyself.” Great job James and I wish you all the best.

  5. So many good tips here. I have indoor only cats so mental stimulation is a must for them – therefore I have an abundance of cat trees and interactive toys. I completely agree about cat food. Most of the brands I see advertised in the larger national pet stores I actually will not feed. If you look on the label on some of these cans or pouches then they have a maximum of about 20 % meat the rest is bulking items especially potato or wheat. I instead feed my cats either by ordering online and getting food shipped from Germany or from a smaller cat store which imports food. German and Swedish cat food is human grade so good quality meat and usually you can get 60-90% meat in these cans (I usually get an 85% meat)

  6. Your article is very insightful and informative. This is a great checklist for cat owners…or, actually, pet owners in general. It is very easy to forget about the simple things – like filtered water, and dietary supplements. I never even considered the benefits of a heating pad for my cat.

Thank you for the information it is very helpful.

  7. Great list of simple steps to provide optimum health benefits for cat owners!
It bugs me when people don’t take care of their cats. I love to pet cats and recently was shocked by a cat owner who did not groom their cat. It only takes a few minutes to brush the cat but I guess some people forget to do it. It’s nice to stroke the cat and not get clumps of cat hair!
I agree with you that you should take your cat to the vet at least yearly to get a check up and whenever it is necessary to do so as well.
    Do cats get “catnapped”? LOL

  8. As a ragdoll cat owner, I found this article very informative and well written.

Thank you so much for the advice and spreading knowledge of all these amazing practises to keep our cats healthy.

  9. Regarding the water filtering, I never considered that our water supply is chemically adjusted for human consumption.

Getting a filter sounds like a plan now.

Are there any animal organisations/charities that have done some research on this? I would be quite interested in knowing how the water companies consider our pets, if at all. Maybe there is government regulation on the matter?

Perhaps you could even cover this subject in a future post?

    All the best, cheers.

    1. An interesting point James. I am not aware whether such research has been carried out. Water from rain water tanks seems to be the best option where households can have them as this water is pure without chemical additives. Thanks for those comments.

  10. Hey Jim,

This is a really informative article, and I’m really pleased I came across it. My girlfriend has a cat and she really, really loves it. It would mean the world to her for me to share this article with her so she can keep her cat as healthy as possible. Obviously I will help her in any way I can with her cat too. We don’t see each other as much as we want because of the pandemic and the restrictions here in the UK. So I think sharing your article will give her a boost, and keep me in her good books 🙂

Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

    All the best,

    Tom

    1. Thank you Tom for those great comments and I do hope that when you share it with your girlfriend she will find the tips useful when caring for her cat. Best regards. Jim

  11. Thanks for providing a really comprehensive guide on cats. My daughter has been pestering us for a cat for ages, and finally we gave in on her birthday last month. This guide is a life-saver! I never realized there was so much to take note of in caring for cats – supplements, filtered water and even the cleaners used around the house. Now we really know what to do!

    Ceci

    1. Thanks very much for those comments Ceci and I do hope that you daughter enjoys the company of her new furry friend. Jim

  12. I enjoyed this post as I’m a cat owner myself. Yes, providing nutritious food is just as important for our cats as it is for us. I allow my cat to outside as he pleases and follow your advice for annual vaccinations. I know he has a few friends and you never know if they have any diseases. You have provided some very good tips for any caring cat owner to follow:)
